    • Creating a custom metric

Default widgets cover the basics. Custom metrics let you track exactly what matters to your program — from hours tagged with a custom field to how many unique volunteers served a group.

A short walkthrough video is coming soon for this step.

    Creating a custom metric

    1. 1

      Open Add widget

On your dashboard, click Customize, then Add widget, then the Custom metrics tab, then Create custom metric.

    2. 2

      Pick a metric

Count service logs or unique volunteers, add up or average a number field, or break down the answers to a text, choice or checkbox field.

    3. 3

      Choose a chart

Counts, sums and averages show as a stat card or a line over time; breakdowns show as a bar or pie chart.

    4. 4

      Set the range and filters

Choose a date range (or keep it current up to today), and optionally narrow it to volunteer groups or service log field values.

    5. 5

      Name it and save

Give it a clear name (e.g., 'Monthly logs — Park Cleanup Crew'). It's added to the end of your dashboard; click Done to keep it.

Pro tip: Build a grant dashboard

Create a metric for every number your funder cares about — logs, unique volunteers, impact field totals. When grant reporting time comes, screenshot the dashboard instead of building a report from scratch.

    Visibility

Each metric is either Just me or Everyone. Everyone metrics appear on every admin's dashboard; only owners and managers can create or change them.
